De Havilland Aircraft of Canada to pause Dash-8 production, 500 employees affected

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Ltd. says it will not produce new Dash 8-400 aircraft at its Downsview site beyond currently confirmed orders.

The company says approximately 500 employees will be affected by the indefinite production pause.

De Havilland Canada says its objective is to resume new aircraft delivery at the earliest possible time, subject to market demand.

De Havilland Canada is owned by Longview Aviation Capital, which bought the Dash 8 aircraft program from Bombardier in 2019.

The Downsview production site in Toronto was sold by the previous owner Bombardier in 2018.

De Havilland Canada has begun preparing to leave the site over the latter part of the year and says there are a number of options in Canada.
