Wafer Food Pantry finds unique way to safely distribute food through the winter months

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Wafer Food Pantry is making sure community members can continue getting food without standing in the cold.

Thanks to a partnership with Feeding Wisconsin (Feeding America) and Channel One Food Bank in Rochester, along with funding from the COVID-19 Food Security Network Support Grant, Wafer has the resources needed to continue its curbside registration and pickup through the winter.

The funding was used to build a small enclosed structure for volunteers,  a conveyor for food, a mobile registration program, and other equipment.

Here’s how it works:

You pull into the parking lot and drive around to the back of the building.

Then stop at the small structure to check in with a volunteer.

Once registered, you just pull ahead and your food box will make its way down the conveyor, making it easy to load it directly into your vehicle.
