A person under 20 has died from COVID-19 in Sheboygan County, health officials said Monday. Officials did not provide the person’s exact age but said they were between the ages of 10 and 19.

It’s the second COVID-related death of a Wisconsin resident in that age group. The first was Madison East High School junior Isai Morocho, who died Nov. 25.

Sheboygan health officials did not provide further information Monday about the death in Sheboygan to protect the privacy of the family.

Statewide, officials reported 19 new deaths Monday, and 1,335 new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The cases accounted for 25.8% of the 5,171 test results that came back Monday, according to the state Department of Health Services.

New cases reported: 1,335

New deaths reported: 19

Number hospitalized: 1,088 (intensive care: 239)

Seven-day average of daily cases: 1,934 (down 3,099 from one month ago)

Seven-day average of daily deaths: 41 (up 1 from one month ago)

Total cases since the start of pandemic: 472,153 (28,912 active cases)

Total deaths: 4,711

Key takeaways

► Confirmed new cases have been generally declining since a peak in mid-November in Wisconsin, when the seven-day average of new daily cases reached over 6,500.

► Wisconsin’s daily death toll from COVID has not mirrored the decline in confirmed cases. Daily deaths remain higher than they were two months ago.

► Though younger people are less likely to die from COVID, Wisconsin has now seen the deaths of two people under age 20, 16 people in their 20s, and 34 people in their 30s.

► Health officials are working to vaccinate Wisconsin residents with a tiered approach, presently providing the vaccine to health care workers. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced Monday that the City of Milwaukee has been approved to be a vaccinator and city health officials will be prioritizing frontline workers.

► Milwaukee’s first mobile COVID testing site will open Tuesday at Barack Obama School, 4300 W. Fairmount Ave., and stay there for at least two weeks. Its hours are 8 a.m. to noon on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Tests are free. Officials are also planning a mobile testing site on the city’s south side but have not announced details. More information about testing is at testupmke.com.
