Williamson Baptist Association holds food distribution – WSIL TV

MARION (WSIL) — Dozens take part in a group effort to provide a bit of food relief to neighbors in the region.
Cars were lined up in Marion at the Williamson Baptist Association parking lot an hour before the event was scheduled to began Saturday afternoon.
Members of Illinois Southern Baptist Disaster Team, Herrin House of Hope and Baptist Association took on the challenge of holding the group’s first food distribution.
The giveaway included more than 100 boxes of food, packed with fruit, vegetables and non-perishable items.
Williamson Baptist Association Moderator Ken Sharp says it takes many to put on an event like this, but its needed.
“You can tell that there’s need and with COVID and everything else going on, there’s been a lot of need,” he says. “This is one of many free-food distributions all across southern Illinois; many, many cities and churches; and groups, have been part of this today.”
Fresh Edge Foods and USDA Farmers to Families programs provided the supplies for this giveaway.
Williamson Baptist is looking at holding more giveaways, as they say, the need for help is on-going.
However, at this time, another date has yet to be set.
