Beatz Seats: Famous Food Truck To Open Fixed Location After Seven Years – Discoverestevan.com
If you start a conversation about what sort of restaurants people would like to see in Estevan, someone is sure to bring up a barbecue joint that does brisket and pulled pork. That person is going to get their wish as a new restaurant is soon to open in the city.
Riley Beatty, owner and operator of the Beatz Eatz food truck and caterer, will open up a fixed restaurant on Souris Avenue sometime in mid-July. It’s the culmination of decades in the food industry that started in Estevan.
“I’ve cooked in Estevan since I was really young,” he said. “At 15 years old I started at Eddie Websters washing dishes and just moved up from there. I’ve cooked everything from steaks to whole pigs, you name it, we’ll do it.”
From there, Beatty worked as a cook in Saskatoon before returning to the southeast to work with his father’s fiberglass shop. In 2014, he started the food truck which specialized in southern-style barbecue and grilled food, and for the past six years he’s also worked out at Boundary Dam, where his food has been immensely popular with the workers.
“They love it all,” he said. “I don’t think we would’ve been there for the past six years if it wasn’t good because we have to run through contracts with them and they get to pick and choose who they get to deal with. We just re-signed last September for another leg out there, so they all really enjoy it. We get lots of repeat customers and lots of fellows who come in on their days off to eat, they enjoy it that much.”
The new fixed location was originally just supposed to be a roof for the catering company to make it easier for him to process customers, but as he began the setup, Beatty realized he could build his new address into something more. Soon, the idea for a restaurant was born.
“Once we had everyone tell us how many people we could have in our restaurant it’s like, man, we could actually support a dine-in/take-out and more option,” he said.
Beatty added he practically took the building at 204 Souris Avenue apart to get it set up. He also said the hope is they’ll be able to officially open for business after July 15.
