Hobby Lobby will nix its 40 percent off coupon starting at the end of February

In news so bad its worthy of a 2020 label, Hobby Lobby is getting rid of its 40 percent off coupon.

The Oklahoma-based arts and crafts chain will stop offering the generous price-reducer both online and in stores beginning Feb. 28.

USA Today notes how Hobby Lobby customers have expressed much disdain over the store’s announcement. One commenter on the brand’s Facebook page wrote, “I’m afraid this will cause you to lose a lot of customers. I have always told people that I thought you had a heart for your customers and employees. That is where I try to spend my money since it is so hard to come by now. Please think about this move.”

However, Hobby Lobby maintains that ridding its stores of the 40 percent off coupon is a move for the people, not against them. “By making this decision, we are intensifying our efforts to discount thousands of items every day,” reads the company’s own Facebook post. “This will offer better value instead of providing a discount on only one item with the coupon.”

Regardless of any official company statement, many customers remain displeased. “All of these stores making changes such as Hobby Lobby doing away with the 40 percent off coupon is going to change customers’ choice on where to buy,” reads another Facebook user’s comment. “With all these crazy things going on in the world now, stores need our business now more than ever, otherwise Amazon will be getting all the business…”

One customer simply said, “March 1st is national NOT SHOP AT HOBBY LOBBY DAY!”

Further information regarding the matter is pending.
