Outbreak update

Two of the province’s largest and deadliest outbreaks during the pandemic have been declared over by public health.

Maples Long-term Care Home, which saw three-quarters of its residents infected and over a quarter of them die because of the virus, along with Parkview Place, which endured 29 deaths, are no longer under outbreaks, the province announced Tuesday.

Maples declared an outbreak on Oct. 23 and had 230 total infections, including 157 residents and 73 staff. In November, and after a tragic scene where eight residents died in a 48-hour period, leading to a review and ultimately changes at the 200-bed facility, Maples called in the Canadian Red Cross for assistance.

Parkview Place, meanwhile, was the province’s longest-running outbreak, having been declared at the 277-bed facility back on Sept. 15. They had 165 total cases, including 120 in residents and 45 in staff members.

Both PCHs are operated by Revera.

Outbreaks were also declared over on Tuesday at the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage la Prairie, Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, the Patient Care Unit E6 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Concordia Hospital unit N3E, Riverview and Health Science Centre unit GH4, all in Winnipeg.

An outbreak was declared at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home in Dauphin.
