Longmont United Hospital and chamber boost Longmont Food Rescue with $1,500 donation – Longmont Times-Call

The Longmont Food Rescue, a nonprofit working to alleviate food insecurity within the community by reclaiming and redistributing food to low-income residents, has been awarded a $1,500 donation from Longmont United Hospital and the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce.

In a news release, Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman Leah Winkler wrote, “the impacts of COVID-19 affected the income necessary for Longmont Food Rescue to continue their operations.” Winkler added that despite a successful fundraiser in 2019 and one that was canceled in 2020, the food rescue was still able to meet the increased need for food for residents.

“In 2020, we added six new recipient sites and distributed no-cost groceries at a total of twelve low-income communities,” wrote Longmont Food Rescue Executive Director Naomi Curland.

Longmont United Hospital CEO Tina Johnson wrote, “the mission and accomplishments of Longmont Food Rescue align perfectly with our mission to keep those in our community healthy in body, mind, and spirit.”

The Longmont Food Rescue was also recognized as a finalist for the Nonprofit of the Year 2020 award from the Longmont Chamber and received a $1,000 donation to honor the tremendous work of the organization.
